Safety is a priority today - both in private and business space. Video monitoring systems (CCTV) have become available, affordable and increasingly advanced. But how to choose the right set of cameras and devices? In this article, we suggest what to look for so that the monitoring system actually fulfills its task - he protected, scared and ensured peace.

1. Specify the needs and purpose for the home and company monitoring system

Before you start choosing cameras, it is worth answering a few basic questions:

  • Is monitoring used to protect property, repel intruders, or registration of events?
  • Will the system work only outside, inside the building or in both spaces?
  • How many detectors do you want to supervise?
  • Do you need remote access to preview through a smartphone?

Answers to these questions will help narrow the choice and better adapt the system to your needs.

2. Selection of the right cameras

Analog cameras or IP?

  • Analog cameras (HD-CVI, HD-TVI, AHD) -are economic solutions that still work well in many applications, especially where the low price and simplicity of the installation counts.
  • IP cameras - offer higher image quality (even 4K), greater configuration and easier remote access. This is currently the most frequently chosen solution for modern monitoring systems.

The resolution matters

For basic supervision, a camera with a resolution of 2MP (full HD) , but if you care about details (e.g. reading license plates), it is worth putting on 4MP, 5MP or more.

Additional functions for the home and company monitoring system

  • Night vision (IR or color at night - Colorvu) - indispensable in conditions of low light.
  • A wide angle of view - useful on property, parking lots or in large rooms.
  • Movement detection, face recognition, AI analysis - increase the effectiveness of the system and facilitate the viewing of recordings.

3. Recorder and data carrier

NVR (for IP cameras) and DVR (for analog cameras)

The recorder should have the right number of channels (e.g. 4, 8, 16) so that all cameras can be connected with a possible supply for the future.

Disk capacity

It is assumed that 1 TB of the disk allows you to save the image from one Full HD camera for about 2-3 weeks with standard settings. If you care about the archiving of recordings, it is worth choosing a larger disk or system with the possibility of expansion.

4. Monitoring with remote access

Most modern systems offer the ability to view live and browse the recordings through the application on a smartphone or through the browser. This is a huge convenience - you can check what is happening on the property, being at work or on vacation.

Make sure that the system you choose has intuitive software , well -functioning push notifications and the ability to save material on the cloud (optional).

5. Quality of workmanship and resistance

External cameras should be resistant to weather conditions - preferably with a leak class IP66 or IP67 . If you plan to install in places exposed to damage (e.g. low at the gate), consider vandal -resistant models (IK10) .

6. Installation and configuration

If you have basic technical skills, many systems can be installed yourself (especially wireless sets). However, with larger installations (e.g. monitoring of the company, production hall, housing estate), it is worth ordering to assemble a professional company - then you gain a guarantee of correct configuration and certainty.

7. Price and quality - where is the golden mean?

Cheap monitoring sets are available on the market, but often low price is associated with limited image quality and failure rate. It is worth betting on proven manufacturers such as Hikvision, Dahua, BCS, Reolink, Ubiquiti , who offer equipment in various price ranges, but with high quality of workmanship.

Summary

A good monitoring system is an investment in security - your family or company. With the right selection of cameras, recorder and accessories, you gain not only peace, but also an effective tool for supervision and reacting if necessary. Remember: the better you adjust the system to your needs, the more effective it will work.
